Demo and teaser trailer released!
Hey guys,
We’ve put together a demo of the new version of Eufloria. This offers a part of what’s available in the full game. There have been massive changes to the game since the IGF version of Dyson that is available on this site, so please check it out! Full version coming soon!
ALSO
Rudolf made an AMAZING trailer for Eufloria and it’s up on YouTube! Man I LOVE this trailer. Check it out:
Playing it. Loving it. Thank you
Darky - October 19th, 2009 at 1:01 amBeautiful. Thank you for this. Looking forward to the official release tomorrow!
Maltor124 - October 19th, 2009 at 1:25 amVery nice work!
hl2mukkel - October 19th, 2009 at 1:31 amHmmm, there seems to be a problem where level 5 does not finish.
I took over the whole asteroid belt (without making and defensive trees – maybe that’s why) and the level doesn’t end.
NightCabbage - October 19th, 2009 at 3:39 amNight Cabbage, it will be the defensive trees I am sure. I may remove that requirement and make them optional in the full release. Sorry about that!
Rudolf - October 19th, 2009 at 7:37 amNice work indeed. One question though, will there also be a Linux demo soon, or where can I find it?
M1AU - October 19th, 2009 at 8:32 amIs there to be a Linux release of the full game, as there is of the IGF version? And if not, how well does the game run in Wine?
sockets - October 19th, 2009 at 9:12 amWe are intending to do a linux release yes – it won’t be there for the 20th but we will be working on it after the Windows version is out there. Not sure how long it will take – I may need to pull a few strings…
Alex - October 19th, 2009 at 9:14 amIt’s a very fun game – I hope many people purchase it (I did)!
NightCabbage - October 19th, 2009 at 11:20 amThanks for the update Alex!
M1AU - October 19th, 2009 at 11:38 amI’m salivating, as I wrote elsewhere. Pre-ordered. But, folks, what I *really* want is a native Mac version because I abhor eternally having to fumble with that punishment whose name is Windows
and I’ll for sure purchase again.
Greetings, Tom
Tom - October 19th, 2009 at 12:13 pmCurrently the intention is that if you purchased the Windows version (at least from us; we will see what can be done) then you’ll have access to the Linux version too. I don’t personally understand the logic of charging for each OS on a platform.
Alex - October 19th, 2009 at 12:17 pmI find myself unable to play the demo. It takes around 125k of memory and the graphics are strange and sometimes not visible. I’m running Windows7 RC build 7100. probably an OS related issue.

This is not limited to the latest demo either. I have gone and found my old versions of Dyson and they act much in the same way.
Preachieved - October 19th, 2009 at 12:32 pmPreachieved, aren’t you, by chance, running the game on Intel integrated videocard?
Vanger - October 19th, 2009 at 1:13 pmPreachieved, look at http://www.dyson-game.com/smf/index.php?topic=409.0
Vanger - October 19th, 2009 at 1:24 pmLooks great, nerve wrecking times for the release?
You’ve done a great job!
José
José - October 19th, 2009 at 1:27 pmPreachieved: I’m running Windows 7 and it works fine here. Make sure you have the latest DirectX updates and video drivers. It looks to me like you might not have enough video memory or some of the textures failed to load for some reason? Try right clicking on the Eufloria executable or shortcut and go to Properties -> Compatability, then disable desktop composition and see if that helps any. It might be possible for something like that to happen if an unsupported texture format is used by the game, but I dunno.

Game Retail Store » Eufloria (Dyson) Trailer, Demo Heralds Tomorrow’s Release - October 19th, 2009 at 2:11 pmThanks for all the help. I’ll start working on trying to fix it now that I have a starting point.
Preachieved - October 19th, 2009 at 2:37 pmYeah! It has come a long way since the original version
Looks and sounds beautyful and the gameplay has improved a lot (esp. ordering the seedlings around).
Things I would still like to see:
LifeScientology - October 19th, 2009 at 2:51 pm* scroll screen on edge with the mouse
* set waypoints, so that new seedlings auto-move to a target asteroid
* seedlings shouldn’t stop attacking the trees, after the first one was destroyed.
Congratulations on a very nice demo!
I think you’ve managed to balance how much to give away in the demo very well, can’t wait to get the full game.
Also a vote from me on the waypoints idea, though I suspect this isn’t the time for new features
Ernst Hot - October 19th, 2009 at 3:25 pmFrench translation has many faults, but we understand. Will you help to correct them ?
Jackh69 - October 19th, 2009 at 5:19 pmFor some reason, when I install the game, it doesn’t start up for me. I get a ‘don’t send’ error and that’s all. The screen doesn’t even go black. I tried to install in a different directory and download the demo again, but it didn’t work. I have a NVidia 5200fx, 1,25 GB ram, Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz. What could the problem be?

Eufloria Demo Released | DIYgamer - October 19th, 2009 at 8:36 pmJust wanted to say that I use Windows 7 too and it works very FINE for me
I think the issues of the old versions have been fixed
hl2mukkel - October 19th, 2009 at 10:38 pmI have a similar problem to Dinamis. The window appears, then a generic error message and it closes. (not inspiring confidence re: purchase, sadly)
I haven’t tried it on my laptop yet. Will do tomorrow.
Kris - October 19th, 2009 at 11:25 pmHey guys, if you are having a crash on startup, please try installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and let us know if it works!
Thanks!
Alex
Alex - October 19th, 2009 at 11:29 pmGot it working. Seems to be the nvidia drivers that were the problem. Thanks for the help everyone.
Preachieved - October 19th, 2009 at 11:42 pmLoved the IGF build and pre-ordered on steam last week. I’ll wait for the full version
Matt N - October 20th, 2009 at 2:47 amI guess if I love the windows version, I’ll have to buy it again for the Mac!
I really like the improvements you’ve made. There are still some things that bothered me though:
- The texts keep referring to a “manual” but I can’t find it. If it’s not included in the demo then you should remove those references.
- The flowers don’t seem to do much. Could you describe what they “enhance” and how much?
- It would be nice if we could have an “objectives” item in the menu that tells us our goals again.
- Often I wanted to zoom out further to move units from one edge of my empire to the other, but couldn’t.
- Sometimes my color is so similar to the enemy’s color that it’s hard to tell them apart. (dark vs light green, etc) I wish we still had the option to choose our own color.
- If I’m trying to select a certain percentage of seedlings from an asteroid and other seedlings are currently passing by, the count fluctuates and forces me to wait until they’re gone so I can make the selection accurately.
- After the seedlings have destroyed a tree, they all swarm at the opening. Defensive trees have cut my armies in half at times while they’re in this position. Please make the seedlings behave more intelligently.
- Several times I’ve wanted to cancel a movement command. Not sure how an option to do that would be made though.
- The new movement system is a great step forward, but it still takes a lot of clicking to gather seedlings.
I suggest we be able to mark asteroids as gathering points for seedlings. We could then specify a seedling threshold per asteroid making all new seedlings past the threshold move to a gathering point. Seedlings would choose their gathering points based on which point has the lowest count. If all the points are fairly close together in number, it will choose the nearest one.
Ctrl+click and/or mouse drag boxes to select multiple asteroids would also be useful.
DBN - October 20th, 2009 at 8:01 amAwesome demo, while the IGF demo was a great thing to play around with, this new demo feels a lot more like an actual game. Good job on that, can’t wait to play the full version later today.
The only thing I missed in this demo were the bird sounds (I think they were geese?) the seedlings made in the IGF demo. It added a lot to the surrealism! Sounded great when zooming to a planet with many seedlings, and it kinda built up tension when the seedlings went into fight and would just scream around.
Though, with or without them, the game’s cool!

This was really needed to start the game. And now everithing works just fine
Taras - October 20th, 2009 at 12:55 pmOh, max nice demo! Waiting for full version… It it soon?
Tixx - October 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pmI just tried out the demo and I’m having the same problem as Preachieved. The thing is, I’m running on vista and my laptop is quite new. I believe my Intel integrated videocard is the problem.. Are there any ways to fix this?
Deed - October 20th, 2009 at 3:11 pmWe’re looking into this now. Fix might be a few days or so…
Alex - October 20th, 2009 at 3:22 pmSorry, Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) didn’t do it for me.
I’m running this on a new install of Windows, and I’ve clearly messed something up as the old demo doesn’t work either (which used to work on the same setup).
Kris - October 20th, 2009 at 4:05 pmI can’t install the demo at all! Once I click install it shows the two install bars for a second, then a black box flashes and it goes back to the install button where you specify the directory. I wanna play this game so bad! Any input would be appreciated.
HELPeR - October 24th, 2009 at 7:32 amMy version of the demo crashes every five minutes after I start playing which is really annoying as I’m up to mission 4 and it’s taking longer than five minutes. Anybody know how to fix this. The error message just says eufloria has encountered a problem and need’s to close.
