3-2-1 we have LIFTOFF!

Hello friends, how are you? We are tired but very excited as after 18 months or so we have finally arrived at the launch day of what is now known as Eufloria!

As this blog post goes up the game should be released, or nearly released on Steam and Direct2Drive (US, UK), with additional distributors and sales on our own site to follow soon. Hopefully it all goes well, but if there are glitches, please don’t panic but report them to us in the tech support & trouble shooting area of our forum. We may be able to resolve them swiftly!

If you have other types of feedback, please feel free to browse the general forum for a good spot to talk about it. We also have a facebook page, and a Twitter Thang, or just send us an email. :-)

Either way, we want to thank you: the players of the game, for giving it a go, we really did try to provide you with a worthwhile experience. In fact there is more to come, as the modding side of things will start to take shape, and we will look into things like achievements as well. The old modding stuff gave us loads of free levels, and the new LUA powered modding framework is WAY more powerful. Expect all kinds of funky things that will add a new dimension to the game.

A few more things:
Linux and Mac users don’t despair, we will try to sort something for you, just let us get this launch thing out of the way and then we can see what we can do.

For those who prefer to buy the game from us directly, this will be possible soon, we just need to plug the e-commerce solution in, and we will update the site as well of course. We have gone flat out to be able to release the game today, so this stuff will follow after launch.

Do you like the music? Go tell Brian Grainger aka Milieu! We will have some cool news about the soundtrack soon as well, so keep an eye out!

Also a warm hug and many thanks to all the amazing people who helped us test and translate the game, and family, loved ones and friends who have supported us throughout.

Right, enough babbling, have a great time playing the game!

Rudolf and Alex

  7. You may need to restart steam to refresh the list, I had to do this before it would change from ‘Not Released’ to ‘Not Installed’ .

  16. Digging it so far and I’ve only encountered 3 minor problems.

    1. Start the game and wait for the music track to do 1 full loop (59 seconds). Once the second loop starts, go into the options and change the music volume. The music starts crackling as soon as you change the volume then, at least on my machine. If you let it keep going, occasionally one of the loops will play without crackles. Restarting the game fixes it, so long as you don’t go in and change the music volume again. SFX and Asteroid ambience volume changes don’t cause this problem. Very minor issue and if anything just reflects poorly on SDL mixer. :P

    2. At one point I went in to start the main game and play level 4, but as soon as I clicked level 4 an in-game error dialog came up saying it couldn’t find a file. I couldn’t see which file it couldn’t find, because the error dialog was actually drawn behind the horizontal level list. Nothing was obviously missing and the level loaded fine, so it wasn’t really an issue. It only happened once and wasn’t able to reproduce it afterwards.

    3. On occasion if I’ve alt tabbed away from Eufloria, it will refuse to regain focus. Minimizing any windows I have open on the desktop and then trying to go back to Eufloria does seem to work though. Maybe this could possibly be due to handling a window event too late in Windows 7? I dunno.

Anyway, it’s great that y’all are considering achievements. If I come across anything in the game that might be worth attaching a separate achievement challenge to, I’ll take note. The best achievements aren’t ones you get for just playing the game, but ones that make you want to go back and play the game again to face a new challenge.

  19. I don’t know what caused it, but the game crashed just before the end of level 11 when I was about to kill the grey colony, right as the notice dialog cam eup. Played through it the second time a little differently and no crash.

    — SPOILER NOTICE, don’t read this next part if you haven’t played it —

Here’s how I played the first time. I conquered the the entire map except for the 2 northern most asteroids. There’s one in the north west and one in the north east. They were undiscovered to me, so I figured I’d to a simultaneous massive attack and end the stage quickly. Built up a couple hundred units in asteroids nearby to each of the undiscovered ones, and then sent both of the swarms in simultaneously. So then I had both discovered almost at the same time and the dialog for discovering the greys came up, at which point the game froze.

When I played through it the second time, I decided to try and test if that was what caused the crash, but since it took a while to conquer everything I skipped the southern part of the map and just worked my way north to test discovering the greys and 1 other asteroid simultaneously to see if it would happen again. Sent 2 individual seedlings each to one of the asteroids and it didn’t crash, but the timing may have been off. Anyhow, hope you find a bug in the script somewhere, it was a little annoying investing time into the stage and then having it thrown away. :P

  20. are you going to make the game compatible with intel onboard graphics?

    lon - October 22nd, 2009 at 1:58 am
  21. Wow, I’m glad I downloaded the free version before you started selling it! Actually I’m sure the IGF version (or whatever you had on the site at the time) probably doesn’t have as many goodies as your current version.

I even did a review of Dyson months ago on Indie Flux (Back when it was Uhfgood’s Game Reviews)

    Here’s the original article – http://indieflux.com/2009/03/06/i-think-that-i-shall-never-see-a-poem-lovely-as-a-tree/

Of course that was on Dyson the IGF finalist (that was like March 6th) version, no the current version.

  23. I just wanted to say thank you for such a tremendous game.

I’ve been looking forward to this for months, and enjoying the demo for so long that it was an absolute pleasure to finally pay for it.

  25. hi,

i was really a huge fan of dyson and i really appreciate your
work, but i have now played almost all levels of eufloria including dark matters etc. and the very sad thing about it is that it is way to easy (and i´m not a strategic genius..): i did´t even have the slightest problems to finish any of the stages.
i know, its an ambient relaxation game, but unfortunately i don´t see the point to play it anymore if i can win all the time so easily. so please please check the balancing again for the next update…

    best,
    r.

p.s. and i would define a logo-font for “Eufloria” (arial is not the best choice…)
