Dyson 1.20 released

Hi all,

We just released version 1.20 which is the version we used on the IGF showfloor. We made it a bit smoother all around, added an attract mode, and changed the rules slightly.

To take an asteroid now, you will have to plant a tree there. It makes more sense this way and lets the belt be completely barren instead of covered in trees at the start of a game.

Also we added an attract mode, which kicks in if you leave the game in the main menu for a while. You can play while the game is in attract mode, but you’ll have the AI ‘helping’ you and the camera may take on a life of its own. Just quit out to the main menu if you want to play normally.

Any questions/comments either leave them on the blog, the forum or email them to us.

  1. Wow great! You put so much effort in this game, you’re doing a great job!

Well, I’ll have to try the actual release first. But I’m sure it’ll be plenty of fun to try out this new version.

Keep up the good work! Dyson is splendid!

  2. A suggestion: when you make a rules change like that, perhaps you could add a menu option for the rule. For the rule of having to build a tree to capture an asteroid, you can have this rule active by default, but allow players to play the old way if they want.

Keep up the good work. :)

  4. is it possible to get a non-installer windows version? i spend alot of time on a computer with non admin and the installer wont run properly but with a zip or rar it would be alot easier to play.

  8. There seems to be a problem with this build, the sending ranges are waaay too big. Not too sure what caused it but I am investigating this now.

  13. This is a great game! One suggestion though would be to make it possible to select a certain seedling, or a group from a certain asteroid, or those that are above a certain speed, etc. That would add a lot of depth. You could send out high energy, high strength “bombers,” then some zippy ones that reach at the same time.
